Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why do people appear to be bidding many times on the same item and no one else is bidding?..Answer: The bidder placed a Maximum Bid on the item which is kept hidden from the other bidders. CharityFundraiser's Auto Bid feature automatically increments their bid as others try to outbid them. A new bidder will appear once they outbid the Maximum Bid. This feature is useful if you don't want to lose to another bidder and don't have the time to watch the bid every moment or you can't get near a computer to bid at closing time.

What does it mean when you see a colored star next to a bidder or sellers name?..Answer: The star indicates the level of positive feedback a person has received. Once a person reaches 10 or more total positives, a purple star appears. Once they receive 100 or more total positives, a blue star will appear. Over 500 positives and the person will receive a Gold-yellow star.

What does Reserve Price mean?..Answer: The Reserve price is the minimum amount the seller is REQUIRED to sell their item for. Sellers do this to protect severe losses from extremely low bid circumstances.

Why is the reserve price not shown?..Answer: The reason the reserve price is kept "hidden" is for several reasons. Typically, the seller will start the auction off below their reserve price. By doing this, the seller attracts more bidders who may be interested in the item, even if they don't bid high enough. This activity can sometimes stimulate a bidding "Frenzy" which is what the seller wants so his reserve not only will be met, but many times exceeded. Do not confuse a reserve price with a minimum bid, they are not quite the same thing.

What is the difference between a minimum bid and a reserve price?..Answer: The minimum bid is shown to all bidders upfront in the beginning. The reserve price is kept hidden until the auction ends or the reserve price is exceeded during the bidding. Typically, sellers who use minimum bids will get fewer bids, especially if the minimum is too high.

How do I know when the reserve price has been met?..Answer: The table which lists "Last Bid" will state "Reserve price met" once the reserve price has been met or exceeded.

How do I know if an item has a reserve price when I am bidding?..Answer: The table which lists "Last Bid" will state "Reserve price not yet met". This means the bid amount is still below the seller's reserve. The buyer can keep bidding on the item until they meet or exceed the reserve. Once the reserve is met, the seller is obligated to sell the item to the highest bidder.

How do I find out the reserve price besides bidding continuously on the item until I reach the reserve?..Answer: You can try contacting the seller and asking, or you can wait until the auction ends. If you placed a bid below the reserve, you can go the closed auctions and the reserve item price on each auction you have bid on will be shown there.

How do I put pictures in my auctions?..Answer: go to Tips for buyers and sellers

How do I pay my buyer's premium?..Answer: Net-Auctions will bill you via email separately for any items purchased at the auction. Remember, if you purchased an item that was listed in the auction even if you weren't high bidder, you are still obligated to pay the buyer's premium. The seller is obligated to contact Net-Auctions regarding any sales made if reserves weren't met. See Rules and Policies for more information on this topic.
